Every now and then so many things show up in a particular area of my life that it’s hard not to notice a theme. Recently it’s been the resilience characteristic of Flexible: Social, which describes how resilient people are able to effectively draw on others for support and assistance. It’s a characteristic I’ve been working on in my own life, because I sometimes think I’ve got to do it all myself, but often find that asking for help yields amazing benefits. Here are two things that popped up in the past couple of weeks that fit this theme:

My husband sent me this New York Times article on the benefits of informal touch on performance in various areas including athletics and organizational work.

And then Pandora served up a song called One Voice by the Wailin’ Jennys that I just plain love and hadn’t heard in a while. Here’s a link to a YouTube video version, and the lyrics just in case you can’t hear them all clearly:

One Voice

This is the sound of one voice
One spirit, one voice
The sound of one who makes a choice
This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of voices two
The sound of me singing with you
Helping each other to make it through
This is the sound of voices two

This is the sound of voices three
Singing together in harmony
Surrendering to the mystery
This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of all of us
Singing with love and the will to trust
Leave the rest behind it will turn to dust
This is the sound of all of us

This is the sound of one voice
One people, one voice
A song for every one of us
This is the sound of one voice
This is the sound of one voice

Invitation: Resilience Playlist

That song got me thinking about what fun it would be to put together a resilience playlist–songs that represent each of the resilience characteristics. So here’s the deal: Review the resilience characteristics if you’re not familiar with them (here’s the link to a description of each of them that Daryl Conner included in his blog), and send me a note with nominations for suggested playlist entries for one or more of the characteristics.
